Texas Advances Bill to Protect Abortion Survivors

The Texas House of Representatives voted 93 to 1 to approve the “Born Alive” act, which is now heading to the state Senate for a vote. The measure will penalize doctors who fail to provide medical care to a newborn surviving abortion. The repercussions could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and possible prison time for gross negligence. According to a Dallas Morning News report, only one Democrat voted no, and the remaining 50 Democrats voted “present.” Read more…

The Texas House of Representatives has preliminarily approved a measure that says any doctor who does not care for an infant born alive after an abortion will be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly serve prison time in cases of gross negligence, a report said.

The “Born Alive” act passed 93 to 1 mostly along party lines, the Dallas Morning News reported and will now advance to the state Senate.

Democrat Harold Dutton cast a “no” vote while 50 other Democrats voted “present, not voting.”

The Left’s Double-Nothing Approach to Abortion

The Left’s most ardent supporters of abortion on demand have yet to realized that their “anything goes” defense of abortion is beginning to backfire. Refusing to accept Roe v. Wade (1973) as a victory, the Left continues moving the goalpost despite more modern advances in medicine that confirm life begins at conception. Legislation, like heartbeat bills, is ramping up at state levels at a rate far outpacing the Left’s ability to stop them, and with an increasingly anti-Roe Supreme Court, the Left’s days may be numbered. Here’s more from American Thinker…

One thing the left is adept at is overreaching. Not content with a small victory, they prefer to double down, going double-or-nothing, and usually ending up closer to nothing than double. Some call this, “Perfect is the enemy of the good” and it is sage advice, whether in politics or in gambling. Pushing the Trump-Russia collusion coup is but one example of such overreach, as AG William Barr will soon demonstrate.

Abortion is the latest issue where Democrats, as well as their leftist cultural and media accomplices, have taken what is for them a solid win and are overreaching to the point that they will actually lose ground in one of their core missions of aborting as many babies as possible.

Roe v. Wade settled the abortion debate in 1973, legally although not morally, when the U.S. Supreme Court found that a right to privacy outweighed states’ rights to regulate abortion, with the ultimate compromise being a restriction on third-term abortions.

SCOTUS Refuses to Toss Planned Parenthood Lawsuit Against Pro-Life Group

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to scrap a request by the Center for Medical Progress to throw out Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit against the group for allegedly illegally secretly recording employees discussing selling aborted baby body parts. The recordings caused a tidal wave of negative publicity for Planned Parenthood, America’s #1 abortion provider, because selling aborted fetal tissue for profit is illegal as is altering abortion protocols to maximize profit with more “intact” specimens. For now, the ruling from the 9th Circuit allowing the lawsuit to proceed remains in effect despite the Center for Medical Progress’ arguments that it was exercising its First Amendment rights. Here’s more from Washington Examiner…

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear the anti-abortion Center for Medical Progress’ request to throw out a lawsuit from Planned Parenthood alleging that the group broke the law by secretly taping its employees discussing reimbursement for fetal tissue.

The Center for Medical Progress argued that the Planned Parenthood lawsuits interfered with the organization’s right to free speech and that it violated a law in California meant to protect citizen journalists. Because the Supreme Court will not take up the case, the ruling from the 9th Circuit permitting the lawsuit to proceed remains in place.

The case did not receive the support of at least four justices, which is the threshold all cases must meet in order to receive a hearing in the Supreme Court. The justices have appeared reluctant to take up controversial topics, including those linked to abortion, after the bruising confirmation battle Justice Brett Kavanaugh faced in the Senate.

“Unplanned” Breaks the Box Office Competition

“Unplanned,” a biopic following the journey of Planned Parenthood defector Abby Johnson to become one of the most highly recognized pro-life activists against her former employer, has exceeded all liberal expectations. Not only has the film brought in more than $6M in its opening weekend, but it is expected to reach #5 at the box office. This success comes despite getting hit with an R rating, MPAA and TV networks refusing to host the film’s ads, and even a Twitter shutdown “error” the weekend of the release. “I’m grateful that God, through His providence, planted me here to tell my story-and that I have the privilege of sharing this film with the world,” Bratcher told “Fox & Friends.” Read more…

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

Despite intense media opposition, an “R” rating from the MPAA, and big tech censorship, pro-life film “Unplanned” is wildly outperforming expectations at the box office.

The biopic — which details Planned Parenthood defector Abby Johnson’s dramatic journey from abortion mouthpiece to pro-life crusader — has taken in an estimated $6,110,000 this weekend, expected to become the #5 movie at the box office.

The film was projected to bring in less than half of what it’s generated thus far.

Notably, “Unplanned” ($6 million budget) racked up a cumulative per-screen average of $5,770 per screen, edging out big-budget flick “Captain Marvel” ($152 million budget).

“Unplanned” has also dominated in audience reviews, scoring a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and earning an A+ rating from CinemaScore.

More Democrats Support Taxpayer-Funded Abortions

Continuing with their legislative priority of pushing abortion on demand, House Democrats are moving to allow taxpayer-funded abortions as part of publicly funded health programs. Reportedly, Democrats will be using their pro-choice majority to revoke the Hyde amendment, forbidding public funding for abortion except under exemptions. The Hyde amendment was introduced with bipartisan support in 1976, but now the Left wants “Medicare for All” complete with mandatory abortion coverage to force single-payer health care and taxpayer-funded abortions on America. Several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have already endorsed repealing the Hyde amendment, including Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) and Kamala Harris (CA). Read more…

Here’s more from The Hill…

Support is growing among Democrats in Congress for allowing abortion coverage in publicly funded health programs.

House Democrats, who say they have a “pro-choice majority” for the first time in history, are vowing to end a long-standing ban of abortion coverage in Medicaid called the Hyde Amendment.

They also want to ensure that future government health care plans mandate abortion coverage.

“I actually think we have the American people with us,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), a co-sponsor of a bill to eliminate the Hyde amendment and a sponsor of a Medicare for All bill that mandates abortion coverage.
