Facebook Labels Revered Christian Quote as “Hate Speech”

Facebook has it out for St. Augustine, labeling a quote of his-included in the Roman Catholic Church’s official liturgical books-as “hate speech.” It’s worth noting that Facebook defines hate speech as “a direct attack on people.” Yet, the quote’s only possible “hate” rhetoric is that it calls out sin. Facebook has repeatedly blocked the quote and even threatened to remove user accounts for posting it. “Let us never assume that if we live good lives we will be without sin; our lives should be praised only when we continue to beg for pardon.” Read more…

Facebook has labeled a quote by St. Augustine as hate speech, according to the director of a pro-life group.

“Facebook has repeatedly banned a quote from St. Augustine every time I’ve posted it. And it’s not some fire and brimstone ‘Sinners are going to hell!’ quote, but in fact, quite the opposite,” wrote Domenico Bettinelli, director of community engagement for Massachusetts Citizens for Life, in a blog post.

PJ Media reported the quote came from a St. Augustine homily included in the Roman Catholic Church’s official liturgical books.

Planned Parenthood President Sacked

An internal coup of sorts is playing out at Planned Parenthood, with the organization’s board holding a “secret meeting” to remove Dr. Leana Wen as its president just eight months after unanimously hiring her. According to a statement released by Wen, at the heart of the matter seems to be differences over framing abortion as a political issue as opposed to one of healthcare: “I believe that the best way to protect abortion care is to be clear that it is not a political issue but a healthcare one, and that we can expand support for reproductive rights by finding common ground with the large majority of Americans who understand reproductive healthcare as the fundamental healthcare that it is.” Read more…

Planned Parenthood removed its president from the organization on Tuesday after less than a year on the job.

Dr. Leana Wen announced her departure on Twitter, characterizing the decision as being made by the board during a “secret meeting.”

“We were engaged in good faith negotiations about my departure based on philosophical differences over the direction and future of Planned Parenthood,” she said.

Wen said in a statement that she had taken on the role at Planned Parenthood to advocate for a “broad range of policies that affect our patients’ health.” The statement she provided suggested that Planned Parenthood preferred to frame abortion as a political issue rather than a healthcare issue.

Trump Declares Title X Abortion Restrictions Effective Immediately

The Trump administration announced Monday that the “Protect Life Rule,” prohibiting family planning clinics from referring women to abortion providers if they receive Title X grants, will be effective immediately. According to a report by the Washington Examiner, about $260 million in grants to “family planning clinics” are subject to the new rules, which also include a stipulation that these clinics cannot share facilities with abortion providers. In other words, President Trump just slashed Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer-funded slush fund. Read more…

The Trump administration announced Monday that family planning clinics are prohibited from referring women to abortion providers if they receive Title X family planning grants.

The Trump administration’s “Protect Life Rule,” which many abortion rights advocates call a “gag rule,” will prohibit recipients of the grant from directly referring for abortions. The rule applies to some Planned Parenthood clinics.

The anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List praised the Trump administration Monday, saying, “Without reducing Title X funding by a dime, the Protect Life Rule simply draws a bright line between abortion and family planning, stopping abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood from treating Title X as their private slush fund.”

Alyssa Milano Compares VP Pence to Nazi Leader, Gets Scorched

Left wing activist actress Alyssa Milano has moved on from virtue-signaling in favor of late-term abortion to comparing Vice President Mike Pence to Heinrich Himmler, the main architect of the Holocaust. Through Twitter she offered up side-by-side images of Himmler at a POW camp during WWII and Mike Pence at an immigration detention center to press her propaganda. Conservatives were quick to blast her for her silence during the Obama days, while others offered up a similar comparison between Planned Parenthood’s president and Nazi eugenicist Josef Mengele. Fresh off of the apparent failure of her pro-abortion sex strike, former child actress Alyssa Milano has sought to remain relevant in today’s political climate by tweeting an image comparing Vice President Mike Pence to Heinrich Himmler, a powerful leader in the German Nazi Party and a main architect of the Holocaust. The image features side by side images of Himmler at POW camp during World War II, and Mike Pence at an immigrant detention center in Texas during his visit last week.

While her tweet has been “liked” over 10,000 times, and “retweeted” over 4,500 times, the response Milano received for her absurd tweet appears to be mostly negative.

Hollywood Hypocrites Have Always Embraced Epstein

Hollywood’s #MeToo credibility is crumbling before our eyes.

First, many in the entertainment industry turned a blind eye to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s rampant alleged sexual harassment and misconduct toward women for years, if not decades. Now we learn they also hobnobbed with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein even after he was convicted for soliciting minors for prostitution and served 13 months in prison, thereby negating any plausible denial they were unaware of his sexual predation.

The stark reality is that after Epstein served his 2008 prison sentence — and became a registered sex offender — Hollywood continued to welcome him with open arms to exclusive VIP events, movie premieres and glitzy parties.
“Equally troubling are Epstein’s long-cultivated relationships within Hollywood and New York media circles, where he moved with ease well after his high-profile 2008 conviction,” reports the Hollywood Reporter.

In 2016, Epstein attended Warner Bros’ “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” premiere in New York, socializing with Hollywood movie stars and industry heavyweights. Back in 2010, Hollywood movie directors, veteran TV journalists George Stephanopoulos and Katie Couric, and Chelsea Handler — to name a few — attended a private dinner party honoring Prince Andrew at Epstein’s multimillion-dollar New York City manse, according to reports.

Quite ironic given that Handler is a vocal #MeToo proponent who walked in the Women’s March on Washington. “Seventeen million women across the world have been sexually assaulted,” she told The New York Times in a 2018 interview. “It’s all over the place. So to ignore it is to live in a lane and be delusional about your own experience.”
Huh? Clearly, Handler conveniently ignored sexual abuse against women and young girls when she attended this party. Was she delusional that he spent time in the clink for the very criminal acts she claims to stand against?

Then there’s Couric, who is currently writing a memoir with details about her own #MeToo experiences throughout her storied career. Will she be including her attendance at the chic party? Or will that chapter not make the cut?
If any of these folks or other Hollywood types who claim to support the #MeToo movement were to truly care about stopping female sexual exploitation, why would they continue to socialize and lend legitimacy, both personally and professionally, to a creep like Epstein?

And a creep he is. Last Saturday, the convicted child predator was arrested, and on Monday, he was charged with child sex trafficking and sex trafficking conspiracy to traffic dozens of underage girls across state lines from 2002 to 2005.

It’s also well known that Epstein flew scores of influential elites inside and outside of Hollywood on his private jet nicknamed the “Lolita Express.” These excursions reportedly included taking underage girls to his lavish private estate in the U.S. Virgin Islands nicknamed “Orgy Island.”

If you think the moniker “Orgy Island” says it all, the New York Post reports that locals dubbed it another name: “‘Everybody called it “Pedophile Island,”‘ St. Thomas boat operator Kevin Goodrich said of Epstein’s 75-acre Little St. James Island, about a mile southeast of St. Thomas. ‘It’s our dark corner.'”

But none of that stopped Hollywood from embracing Epstein during or after his criminal acts. Even during the height of the #MeToo movement, with movie moguls like Weinstein finally being held to account, Epstein was still welcomed by Tinseltown. “Even in the post-#MeToo era, Epstein, 66, frequently attended industry events, like the Gotham Awards in November 2017,” reports the Hollywood Reporter. All of which lends credence to the term “Hollywood hypocrite.” Quite fitting, wouldn’t you say?

Trump Announces Census Citizenship EO

President Trump just outflanked the Swamp’s bureaucratic red tape by announcing Thursday that he plans to put the citizenship question on the 2020 census through Executive Order. “They’re spending 15 to 20 billion dollars on a census. They’re asking everything except, ‘Are you a citizen of the United States?’ How ridiculous is that? So we are moving forward. We have a couple of avenues.” Read more…

Here’s more from The Hill…

President Trump on Thursday plans to announce an executive action related to the census, according to a White House official.

The action is expected to address the citizenship question that the Supreme Court recently blocked the administration from adding to the 2020 census. Trump tweeted that he will hold a news conference in the afternoon “on the Census and Citizenship.”

White House officials declined to discuss the content of the executive action, but said it may not be a full-blown executive order.

Trump has hinted in recent days that he may use an executive order to force the inclusion of a citizenship question on census forms following the high court’s decision in late June.

Ellis Jacob, CEO of the Cineplex movie theaters in Canada, refused to cave to a boycott threat from protestors against the pro-life film “Unplanned.” Jacob defended the film, which one protester deemed “U.S.-funded propaganda,” in a written statement, complete with a friendly reminder about the real culprits of fascism: “Many of us will have to set aside our own personal beliefs and remember that living in a country that censors content, opinions, and points of view because they are different from our own is not a country that any of us would want to live in.” Read more…

While people threatened to boycott the Cineplex movie theaters in Canada because the pro-life film “Unplanned” was going to show there, the CEO of the Cineplex chain, Ellis Jacob, instead of backing down, issued a letter stating the chain would not capitulate, reminding the protesters, “Many of us will have to set aside our own personal beliefs and remember that living in a country that censors content, opinions and points of view because they are different from our own is not a country that any of us would want to live in.”

The Daily Wire reported in May:

“Unplanned” tells the story of famed Planned Parenthood defector Abby Johnson, who left the organization to become a pro-life activist after witnessing an abortion while working at the Bryan, Texas Planned Parenthood clinic in 2009.Released in March, the movie arguably became one of the most successful independent movies of 2019 thus far by raking in $18 million in the box office on a $6 million budget.

Starbucks Apologizes for Anti-Cop Employee

Starbucks is apologizing after one of its employees in Tempe, Arizona, asked six police officers to leave the location on Independence Day, resulting in the #DumpStarbucks hashtag and viral backlash. “When those officers entered the store and a customer raised a concern over their presence, they should have been welcomed and treated with dignity and the utmost respect by our partners [employees],” the company wrote in an apology. “Instead, they were made to feel unwelcome and disrespected, which is completely unacceptable.” Read more…

Here’s more from PJ Media…

In case you missed it: a Starbucks employee in Tempe, Ariz. caused a national stir after being extraordinarily disrespectful to some police officers on Independence Day. The public was quickly made aware of it when the Tempe Officers Association took to social media to politely express their disappointment.

That outraged so many people that the #DumpStarbucks hashtag caught fire and began trending across social media over the weekend.

On Sunday, the company issued an apology via its blog, “Starbucks Stories and News,” after meeting with Tempe Chief of Police Sylvia Moir:

Thank you, Chief Moir, for the conversation today. On behalf of Starbucks, I want to sincerely apologize to you all for the experience that six of your officers had in our store on July 4.

‘Real America’ Inside the Beltway

WASHINGTON — It is often said our nation’s capital is filled with wealthy college-educated elites operating in a company town where everything is transactional. They are a clubby set of folks who can “fail up” in their profession and rarely interact meaningfully with anyone who isn’t part of their peerage. They have lost touch with whomever they used to be wherever they used to come from.

Certainly, on the surface, things here look that way. But that is only the veneer.
Washington also serves as a destination point for Americans from across the country who often save up all year to bring their families to experience all of the history that has gone into forming this country. They visit both large and small museums; the U.S. Capitol; and the memorials honoring Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and the brave men and women who fought in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.

At the Lincoln Memorial one recent day, thousands of parents, children and grandparents climbed the 87 marble steps from the reflecting pool to the feet of the 16th president. Dozens of languages filled the air as young entrepreneurs swiftly dodged park rangers to sell ice-cold water from makeshift carts. “Dollar water! Dollar water!” chants formed crowds around the cheerful young capitalists.

With the Washington Monument in the distance, a group of sorority sisters dressed to the nines who said they graduated from Howard University together years ago laughed at their follies as they tried to orchestrate a selfie.
Just 300 yards northwest of the tourism bustle, a different sojourner was found at “the wall.” Hundreds walked silently and respectfully past the chronological list of over 58,000 men and women who gave their lives in service to this country in Vietnam.

One man, his cap noting his service, stood with his hand touching a name, weeping quietly. His skin bronze, his dark hair was streaked with white and pulled back in a ponytail. He was briefly inconsolable. His wife began singing a chant, the chords anguished. Strangers one by one gently patted his back as they passed by.
His wife said, “It is a blessings chant … for healing.”

Two blocks away, a different anguish was visible in an encampment of homeless people on E Street, within eyesight of the State Department and the leafy campus of George Washington University. People who have grown used to this anguish hurry past.

City officials insist their family homeless problem has abated. There is irony to the rows of tents filled with people unable to make some sort of go of it in a city surrounded by six of the 10 richest U.S. counties.

Washington is just as complex as the small towns in Middle America that are often cast as homogeneous stretches of uneducated, immobile, resentful bigots.

In the past few months, I have driven through the back roads of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and probably some other states I am forgetting. My experiences are always the same: People are nice, helpful, giving, imperfect, hardworking, deeply proud of where they come from and profoundly aspirational, no matter what trials they are struggling with.

But here’s the irony: As much as Beltway insiders are told they need to get out of D.C. and see the real America, they could see the real America in their backyard if they were to open their eyes.

We often miss what is right in front of us, no matter where we live. A several-mile walk through Washington reminded me that it truly does represent all of the aspirations, weaknesses and failures you can see and experience anywhere in this country.
