White House Authorizes Use of Force at the U.S.-Mexico Border

President Trump’s chief of staff John Kelly signed a “Cabinet order” Tuesday giving the 5,800 active-duty U.S. troops and 2,100 National Guard troops deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border permission to use force and to carry out permissible law enforcement task in their duty to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border. Military Times reports that the authorized use of force can include “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary), crowd control, temporary detention. and cursory search.” According to Kelly, the move was deemed necessary because the caravan “may prompt incidents of violence and disorder.”

President Trump’s chief of staff, John Kelly, reportedly signed a “Cabinet order” late Tuesday that gives the thousands of U.S. troops deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border permission to carry out some law enforcement tasks and use force in certain situations in dealing with as many as 10,000 Central American migrants who have traveled to the country as part of a caravan.

The memo says “Department of Defense military personnel” can “perform those military protective activities that the Secretary of Defense determines are reasonably necessary” to protect themselves and all U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel, including “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary), crowd control, temporary detention. and cursory search,” according to the Military Times.

Approximately 5,800 active-duty troops and 2,100 National Guard troops are stationed at various regions of the southern border.

DHS: Migrant Caravan Includes 500 Criminals

A new DHS report confirms what has been obvious from the get-go: It is not an authentic, asylum-seeking sea of humanity amassing at the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego. Instead, the 6,000-strong caravan is composed of criminals, miscreants, and opportunists. According to the DHS report, more than 500 criminals are part of the caravan, and the overwhelming majority are adult males, not women or children. As a result, residents in Tijuana are calling foul and escalating protests after migrant officials said the caravan could be hanging out in their neighborhood for months. U.S. officials maintain no one will cross the border until their asylum requests are fully processed, which could take up to six months. Read more…

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

The migrant caravan that is amassing at the San Diego border contains over 500 criminals, the Department of Homeland Security warned Monday. Contrary to reports by the media and immigrant activists, DHS officials said, the vast majority of the migrants are men, not women and children. The reports come amid growing tension between residents of Tijuana and the increasing number of migrants that officials say may be there for months.

DHS officials made the claims during a conference call with reporters Monday afternoon reported by Fox News, which notes that officials said “most” of the estimated 6,000 members of the caravan gathered at the border are young men. To garner public sympathy, DHS officials said, migrant activists have tried to push the women and children to the front for the cameras.

Among the 6,000 migrants are more than 500 known criminals, officials said. Mexican officials expect the number of migrants aggregating in Tijuana near the San Ysidro border crossing to exceed 10,000 soon, and that swelling number of asylum-seekers will require housing, which the government says it does not have the resources to provide.

Busiest U.S.-Mexico Border Crossing Closed

U.S. border officials shut down the San Ysidro port of entry to all northbound vehicular traffic on Monday to better secure it with “temporary impediment measures” ahead of the arrival of the thousands-strong caravan from Central America. As many as 20,000 pedestrians and 70,000 vehicles use this lawful port of entry traveling between Tijuana and San Diego every day. It is the busiest crossing in the Western Hemisphere according to a Washington Examiner report. Read more…

Here’s more from Washington Examiner…

U.S. border officials on Monday shut down all vehicular traffic flowing north from Mexico into California at the country’s busiest border crossing and diverted staff to help bulk up the infrastructure and security there, in anticipation of the arrival of thousands of migrants traveling in caravans from Central America.

The San Ysidro port of entry, which processes 20,000 pedestrians and 70,000 vehicles moving from Tijuana to San Diego each day, closed all passenger and commercial lanes and one of its two pedestrian crossings.

The port’s 26 passenger lanes and 22 pedestrian lanes see more traffic than any in the entire Western Hemisphere.

“U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have temporarily suspended vehicle processing for northbound travelers at the San Ysidro port of entry Monday morning to position additional port hardening materials,” CBP, the federal agency that oversees all port activity, said in a statement issued Monday.

Trump’s Tariffs and the Environment

Is there a silver lining to President Donald Trump’s $250 billion in tariffs on Chinese imports?
You bet there is — but first we must acknowledge the inconvenient fact that globalism is inconsistent with environmentalism.

Take carbon dioxide emissions. The foundational principle toward fighting climate change, according to Al Gore and scientific experts worldwide, is to reduce, if not eradicate, man-made CO2 at all costs. A landmark study recently released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that the planet has just 12 years left before catastrophe strikes because of global warming caused by our having too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Climate alarmists warn that if the earth’s temperature warms by even 0.5 percent, humans will be subjected to an onslaught of devastating floods, hurricanes and other natural disasters, in addition to poverty afflicting hundreds of millions of people worldwide and other doomsday scenarios.

So why are many globalists who also care about protecting the environment against Trump’s tariffs? Yes, higher retail costs are expected to be passed along to consumers, but one benefit that ought to be considered is that the tariffs will create a consumer demand for cheaper products to be made in America, thereby significantly reducing the environmental damage being done every single day by foreign nations, China included, that transport massive loads of consumer goods to North America — burning boatloads of fossil fuels along the way.

It doesn’t take a scientific degree to know that if more products were made in America and consumers shopped locally, we’d be protecting the environment by dramatically reducing CO2 emissions generated via long-distance transportation from China to the U.S. — as well as a global dependency on big oil. Add to it that many of China’s manufacturing plants use antiquated systems, including high-intensity CO2-emitting coal plants. By contrast, the United States adheres to cleaner manufacturing processes and other supply chain logistics than many of our foreign competitors, which has contributed to an annual reduction in U.S. carbon emissions of approximately 1.2 percent for the past decade. China continues to be the world’s biggest polluter.

“The amazing increase in Chinese manufacturing over the past 15 years has driven the world economy to new heights and supplied consumers in developed countries with tremendous quantities of lower-cost goods,” said Steven J. Davis, a professor of earth system science at the University of California, Irvine. “But all of this has come at substantial cost to the environment.”

Hence, globalists — all in on global trade with China and other nations — can no longer ignore the fact that the U.S. manufactures and delivers goods with a lower environmental footprint than many of our foreign competitors, making the case that protectionism is more compatible with protecting the environment than globalism.

Another benefit to Trump’s bold trade agenda is job creation. If America manufactures more goods stateside, we’ll not only increase the labor workforce participation rate but also slash pollution across every facet of the supply chain.

So the next time someone says Trump’s tariffs will cause consumer prices to spike, ask the person to consider the billions American taxpayers are already shelling out every time there’s a hurricane or another natural disaster. Also mention the money we’d save if millions of able-bodied welfare recipients were transitioned off public assistance and onto payrolls, widening the U.S. tax base.
Trump’s tariffs could end up yielding short-term consumer pain but long-term gain for both the environment and the overall U.S. economy.

Maybe Trump really is a stable genius after all.

ICE: Migrants Can’t Get Into U.S. Without Mexico’s Help

Thomas Homan, former head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, reported that Mexico may be more unwilling than unable to stop the thousands of Central American migrants from marching through its territory en route to force their way across our southern border. “As far as Mexican police not being able, I would say maybe not being able, maybe some unwilling,” Homan explained in an appearance on Fox News. However, it is not a hopeless situation. According to Homan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and agents will “defend the line” even if Mexico does not.

Here’s more from Washington Examiner…

The former acting director of the federal immigration agency suggested Monday that Mexico may be unwilling to stop thousands of Central American migrants from entering its southern border.

“As far as Mexican police not being able, I would say maybe not being able – maybe some unwilling.” Thomas Homan, the former head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an appearance on Fox News Monday morning.

Homan said that, unlike Mexican law enforcement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers based at official entry points and Border Patrol agents stationed between ports “won’t step aside or step back.”

“They will defend this line,” Homan added.

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry deployed hundreds of federal police and immigration officers to its border with Guatemala last week as a group of primarily Honduran nationals made its way there.

Trump Is Standing Up for Us

What a blessing to finally have a president who’s looking out for us, the American taxpayers, versus kowtowing to globalist elites and NATO members who’ve been exploiting the United States by failing to pay their fair share in military defense spending.

It’s no secret that NATO members have, by and large, gotten a free ride as the U.S. has funded 70 percent of the alliance’s budget, at a cost of over $700 billion per year — courtesy of the American taxpayer. For what modern-day purpose? So the U.S. can defend Germany, for example, from Russia while German Chancellor Angela Merkel backs an energy pipeline, Nord Stream 2, between the two nations, which will supply natural gas from Russia’s Baltic coast directly to Germany in 2019 — benefiting Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Donald Trump dressed down Merkel this week for the misguided energy deal — which gives NATO’s chief nemesis, Russia, a huge financial benefit — she could’ve brokered with the U.S. instead, while we pick up the tab for Germany’s defense.

You don’t need an Ivy League degree to know that this type of arrangement just doesn’t make sense.

In Brussels this week, President Trump tackled the matter head-on. In a shockingly direct manner, he confronted and chastised NATO members who spend less than 2 percent of their gross domestic products on military preparedness while America contributes an estimated 3.5 percent of its much larger GDP.

Thanks to Trump’s in-your-face, no-holds-barred leadership the world is slowly getting accustomed to, many alliance members have agreed to ramp up their military spending. Trump told reporters: “What they’re doing is spending at a much faster clip. They’re going up to the 2 percent level. … Some are going back (to their parliaments) to get the approval, which they will get, to go to 2 percent. After we’re at 2 percent, we’ll start talking about going higher. … Ultimately … in years … we should be at 4 percent.”

If American voters re-elect Trump in 2020, that target is most likely where we’ll arrive.

Until then, what’s clear is that unlike his “swampy” predecessors, Trump is looking out for U.S. taxpayers and putting America first — not globalist foreign elites.
Quite refreshing indeed.

Trump Declares Victory With NATO Commitment to Pay More

President Trump refused to do business as usual at the NATO summit in Brussels last Thursday forcing an ’emergency session’. Reports revealed Trump insisted on keeping defense funding front and center until it was addressed. Following the meeting, President Trump declared: “We’ve accomplished a lot with respect to NATO…everyone has agreed to substantially up their commitment, they are going to up it to levels they never thought of before.” This is a major concession for NATO allies who have benefitted for decades from American defense spending for the protection of the entire Western hemisphere.

Here’s more from Breitbart…

President Donald J. Trump appeared to have met his key objectives for the Brussels NATO summit Thursday, revealing that alliance members would “substantially” increase their commitments, and much faster than previously planned.

The comments came at a surprise press conference called after an emergency session of NATO ally leaders Thursday morning. The meeting had begun as a planned multilateral discussion between NATO, Georgia, and Ukraine, but Trump’s insistence on discussing the poor state of defense funding among the majority of members led to alliance Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg declaring the meeting an “emergency session”.

Foreign leaders including those of Ukraine, Georgia, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker had to leave the room, which was then restricted to the most senior leaders of NATO member nations.

Speaking after the conclusion of the meeting, President Trump said that while he had expressed to his fellow world leaders that he was “extremely unhappy”, he hailed them for having agreed to “substantially up their commitment”.

The President said: “We’ve accomplished a lot with respect to NATO… everyone has agreed to substantially up their commitment, they are going to up it to levels they never thought of before.”

Border Patrol: NYC Mayor De Blasio Illegally Crossed Border

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio broke federal law. More specifically, he and his security detail illegally crossed into Mexico during a June visit to Texas — after being denied permission to cross the area earlier that day. De Blasio denies willfully breaking the law and continued his attacks on President Trump. But the USBP isn’t backing down in their claims. If it’s ultimately verified, it’s more proof in the case for liberals’ notion that they’re above the law. And it’s yet another demonstration for why Hillary Clinton lost the election.

Here’s more from Fox News…

A letter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection emerged stating the mayor and his security detail illegally crossed over the U.S.-Mexico border during a visit to Texas last month.

During a news conference Wednesday at the Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, de Blasio called the allegations “absolutely ridiculous” and an attempt by the Trump administration to create a distraction amid the immigration debate involving illegal immigrant children.

“[This] is another way to distract [the American people] from an inhumane policy,” de Blasio said about the letter being released about two weeks after it was issued.

“Threats by the Trump administration will not stop me from speaking out and won’t stop my fellow mayors from speaking out,” the mayor said.

In a letter sent on June 25 and obtained by Fox News, CBP said de Blasio and his security detail, run by the New York Police Department, illegally crossed the border near El Paso on June 21. The mayor and his security detail were spotted taking photos by a Border Patrol agent on the Rio Grande River flood plain south of the Tornillo, Texas, Port of Entry.

They had been denied earlier in the day entrance to a holding facility for immigrant children, which de Blasio said on Wednesday “made no sense.”

The Predictable Media Reaction to the Trump-Kim Summit

Perhaps the president is onto something.

Upon returning from a potentially game-changing diplomatic summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un this week, President Donald Trump tweeted: “So funny to watch the Fake News, especially NBC and CNN. They are fighting hard to downplay the deal with North Korea. 500 days ago they would have ‘begged’ for this deal — looked like war would break out. Our Country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools!”

Trump’s frustration with the way the press covers his administration is shared by millions of Americans who see the stark difference between how mainstream media — saturated with elites and foot soldiers for the Democratic Party — treat liberal politicians and how they treat conservatives.

Take North Korea. Last year, when the rogue regime was rapidly advancing its nuclear arsenal, launching missiles over Japan and threatening to destroy America, President Trump didn’t back down. Instead, he used strong rhetoric, tweeting that “Little Rocket Man” Kim was on a suicide mission and that if he continued to threaten the United States, he would be met with “fire and fury.”

Instead of applauding the president for not cowering to threats of an unthinkable nuclear showdown, mainstream media pundits pounced. They accused the president of being unfit to be commander in chief. They assured us that his provocative tweets and unconventional rhetoric were “unhinged” and would start a war. In essence, the media echo chamber feigned outrage about Trump’s using an unprecedented approach toward handling the belligerent regime despite their knowing full well that the past three administrations’ path of least resistance was an utter failure.

What did Barack Obama’s strategy of “strategic patience” with North Korea yield?

It made the world a more dangerous place as dictator Kim Jong Un rapidly developed nuclear-tipped missiles capable of striking the continental United States — not to mention the possibility of a missile strike against Japan or another U.S. ally in the region. Clearly, a pivot in America’s foreign policy approach toward North Korea was needed to get Kim to denuclearize and bring peace to the Korean Peninsula.

In addition to tough talk, the Trump administration implemented a maximum pressure campaign against the regime, with toothy sanctions and measures to get the North Korean dictator to the negotiating table.

Fait accompli.

So far, Trump’s approach has worked, as Kim has pledged to denuclearize and live peacefully with his South Korean neighbors — potentially ending a decadeslong war between the countries.

But instead of hearing praise from the media and leaders in the Democratic Party, Trump has been subjected to a predictable barrage of negative sound bites inside and outside the Beltway.

It’s no wonder public trust in media is at an all-time low.

With all the disproportionally biased reporting and so-called journalists trafficking political narratives, who can blame the skeptics?

Firm: US Opens Embassy in Jerusalem Under Fire

The Trump administration made good today on its promise to move the US embassy in Israel to its rightful place in Jerusalem.

Prime Minister ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu beamed, “What a glorious day!”

What most don’t know is that Congress made this decision nearly a quarter-century ago.

But unrest in the Middle East replete with threats from the PLO and other fellow terrorist travelers put a damper on that move.

The official opening came under fire, as we might have expected.

Palestinian insurgents continued their attempted breach of the border along the Gaza Strip which resulted in dozens of casualties.

It’s just another reminder that radical Islam is a religion of peace just as long as full submission and compliance are the terms of agreement.

The US must continue its resolve, regardless of the terms of engagement.

Here’s more from JPost…

Sixty-nine years after Israel declared Jerusalem as its capital, and 23 years after the US Congress passed a law mandating that Washington move its embassy there, the US formally opened its embassy in the city on Monday afternoon, in a move Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called “courageous” and “momentous.”

“What a glorious day. Remember this moment!” Netanyahu entreated the applauding crowd. “President Trump, by recognizing history, you have made history. All of us are deeply moved. All of us are deeply grateful.”

“Last December, President Trump became the first world leader to recognize Jerusalem as our capital, and today, the United States of America is opening its embassy right here in Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said. “Thank you President Trump, for having the courage to keep your promises!”
